New Paltz, NY (January 23, 2026) – Emergency crews from New Paltz Fire and Rescue responded on Thursday to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 240 block of Mountain Rest Rd, a winding and heavily wooded stretch west of the village center known for its sharp turns and steep terrain.
The collision occurred during the daytime hours and involved at least one vehicle sustaining damage after leaving the roadway or colliding with another car. Upon arrival, first responders located individuals requiring medical assistance and began immediate treatment at the scene. At least one person was reported injured, though the full extent of injuries and the total number of people involved have not yet been confirmed.
Medics evaluated the injured party on-site and coordinated transport to a nearby medical facility for further care. Fire crews remained on scene to assist with vehicle stabilization and hazard mitigation, while law enforcement managed traffic around the crash area.
Mountain Rest Rd was temporarily restricted while emergency operations were underway. Due to the location and terrain, response teams had to navigate tight access routes to reach the crash site safely and efficiently. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the cause of the collision, but have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
As responders continue their work and officials review the circumstances, our thoughts are with those injured in this crash. We wish them a full and smooth recovery in the days ahead.
