Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving so dangerous?
Taking eyes or attention off the road for even a few seconds, such as to check a phone, can prevent a driver from reacting in time to stop, yield, or avoid another vehicle, especially at intersections where turns and crossing traffic demand quick decisions.
How do weather and road conditions contribute to crashes?
Rain, fog, glare, or poor lighting can reduce visibility and increase stopping distances, making it harder to judge the speed and position of oncoming or crossing vehicles, particularly during left turns at busy intersections.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Newport News, VA
Anyone involved in a collision in Newport News should get checked by a medical provider as soon as possible, since some injuries from a vehicle impact don't show symptoms right away. It's also important to request a copy of the police report once it's available and to keep records of any medical visits or vehicle damage. If you were a passenger or witness, providing a clear account to officers while details are fresh can help the investigation move forward.
