NEWTON, Middlesex County, Mass., Sept. 20, 2026 — Three people were taken to hospitals on Saturday afternoon, September 19, after a car crashed into the pro shop at a golf course in the West Newton section of the city, authorities said.
Newton Police officers responded to Brae Burn Country Club on Fuller Street for the crash. The driver and two pro shop workers were hurt and taken for treatment of injuries described as minor.
A wall of the building was damaged in the crash. Police said the section has since been boarded up and that the city engineer responded to assess the structure.
Authorities said the cause remains under investigation but does not appear to involve criminal conduct. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.
How Investigators Piece Together a Vehicle-Into-Building Crash
When a car leaves the road and strikes a structure, police typically begin by securing the scene and checking on anyone inside the building and the vehicle's occupants. Officers document skid marks, final resting positions, and any visible mechanical damage before the vehicle is moved, since that physical layout often shapes the rest of the investigation.
Determining what happened, whether it was driver error, a medical episode, a mechanical failure, or something else, can take time. Investigators may review the vehicle's data recorder, interview witnesses, and coordinate with a city engineer or building inspector when a structure is damaged, as happened here. None of that work is quick, and departments generally wait for confirmed findings before releasing a cause.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 1,947,298 passenger-vehicle occupants were injured in motor-vehicle traffic crashes in 2023. That volume is part of why departments prioritize confirmed facts over speculation, even in cases without life-threatening injuries.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do right after a car crashes into a building or another vehicle?
Call 911, check yourself and others for injuries, and stay put until police arrive if it's safe to do so. Avoid moving a damaged vehicle unless it poses a hazard, since its position can help investigators later.
How do road or weather conditions factor into crashes like this?
Wet pavement, glare, or poor visibility can affect a driver's control and braking distance, though many crashes into fixed objects also involve driver distraction, a medical issue, or pedal error. Investigators look at conditions at the time as part of a full review.
What steps help lower the chances of this type of crash?
Slowing down in parking lots and near building entrances, keeping full attention on the wheel, and having a vehicle's brakes and acceleration systems regularly inspected all reduce the odds of an unintended collision with a structure.
