Why Failure-to-Yield Crashes Frequently Happen at Intersections
Failure-to-yield collisions are common at intersections where drivers must judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic before turning or crossing. Even a brief miscalculation can result in a serious side-impact collision.
Rural and county road intersections may also present visibility challenges due to darkness, roadside obstructions, or limited lighting during nighttime hours. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, skid marks, and witness statements to determine how traffic movements occurred before the crash. These types of collisions often lead to injuries because occupants can absorb significant force when a vehicle is struck from the side.
