Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed make a crash worse? Yes. Higher speed means more force at impact and less time for drivers to react or brake, which tends to increase the severity of injuries and vehicle damage.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky? Even a few seconds of taking eyes off the road, at highway speed, can cover the distance of several car lengths, leaving no time to avoid a slowdown or stopped traffic ahead.
Can weather or road conditions cause a crash like this? Wet pavement, low visibility, or debris can reduce traction and reaction time, though it's not known whether conditions played a role in this particular crash.
What should someone do right after a car accident? Move to a safe spot if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver. Document the scene with photos if it's safe to do so, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Norcross, GA
If you're involved in a crash on a busy interstate like I-85, safety comes first: turn on hazard lights, stay in the vehicle if traffic is heavy and it's not safe to exit, and wait for emergency responders if you're unsure. Once you're safe, get checked by a medical professional, since some injuries, like whiplash or internal bruising, don't show symptoms right away. Keep a copy of the police report and any medical records in case you need them later for insurance purposes. Giving yourself time to recover, physically and emotionally, matters just as much as handling the paperwork.
