Frequently Asked Questions
Are pedestrian crashes more likely to happen at night?
Yes. Reduced visibility and slower driver reaction times make nighttime hours riskier for people on foot, especially outside lit crosswalks or intersections.
What should a pedestrian do immediately after being hit by a vehicle?
Call 911 right away, avoid moving if injury is suspected, and get checked by paramedics even if injuries seem minor. Some injuries, like internal bleeding or concussions, aren't obvious right away.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections, but drivers and pedestrians both share responsibility for watching for each other before crossing or turning.
What can drivers do to avoid hitting someone on foot?
Slowing down near intersections, scanning both sides of the road before turning, and staying off phones while driving all give drivers more time to spot someone crossing.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Crash in North Hollywood, CA
Anyone who witnesses a pedestrian crash should call 911 immediately and, if it's safe, stay nearby to give officers a firsthand account. Even small details, like the direction a vehicle was traveling or a partial plate number, can help investigators later.

Request a copy of the police report once it's filed, and keep records of any treatment received. In hit-and-run cases like this one, tips from the public often lead to identifying the driver, so anyone with information is encouraged to contact the LAPD.
