Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles frequently suffer head trauma, broken bones and internal injuries. Severity usually depends on the vehicle's speed and the point of impact.
What typically causes pedestrian crashes like this one?
These crashes usually involve a combination of factors such as low visibility at night, a driver failing to see someone in or near the roadway, or a pedestrian crossing outside a marked area. Investigators determine the specific cause case by case.
Does vehicle speed change a pedestrian's chance of survival?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the likelihood of serious or fatal injury.
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many occur on or near roadways with higher speed limits, including highways and major arterial streets, especially after dark when visibility is reduced.
