Norwich, CT (January 30, 2026) – Firefighters responded to a serious residential structure fire Friday night at 53 Sunnyside Avenue, where three individuals sustained burn injuries during the incident.
The blaze broke out around 9:01 p.m. and was concentrated on the back deck of the home, according to dispatch reports. Norwich Fire Department crews arrived on scene and immediately began efforts to contain the flames and assist the injured occupants. However, firefighting efforts were significantly hampered by frozen hydrants in the area, complicating water supply and delaying containment.
Emergency medical teams were also on-site to provide immediate care to the three victims, who reportedly suffered varying degrees of burn injuries. The individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been publicly released.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the fire, including whether weather conditions or external factors played a role in the outbreak.
Our thoughts are with the burn victims and their families during this difficult time, and we recognize the swift efforts of Norwich firefighters who battled not only the flames but harsh winter conditions to protect lives and property.
