Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed play a role in how survivable a crash is? Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which raises the chance of serious or fatal injury.
Why is wearing a seat belt so important in a crash like this? A seat belt keeps occupants from being thrown from their seats or ejected during a crash, which significantly improves the odds of survival in high-speed or head-on collisions.
How do agencies investigate a fatal multi-vehicle crash? Investigators typically examine the scene, collect physical evidence, interview any witnesses, and review vehicle data to determine how and why the crash happened. Findings can take weeks to finalize.
What should a family do after learning of a fatal crash? Families are usually contacted by the investigating agency once identification is confirmed, and can request updates on the investigation through that agency as it continues.
