Pedestrian Safety on Highways
Highway crossings can be extremely dangerous for pedestrians due to high vehicle speeds and limited visibility. Collisions often result in serious injury or death, even at lower speeds.
Authorities encourage pedestrians to use crosswalks, sidewalks, and pedestrian overpasses whenever possible. Drivers are reminded to remain alert, especially at night, near intersections and areas where pedestrians may be present. Investigators typically examine vehicle speed, road conditions, and lighting when reviewing highway collisions involving pedestrians.
