Why Interstate Pedestrian Accidents Can Become Deadly Quickly
Pedestrian accidents on interstate highways often lead to severe or fatal injuries because of the high speeds involved. Drivers traveling on major highways usually have less time to react when a person enters traffic lanes unexpectedly. Limited visibility during early morning hours can also make it harder to avoid a collision.
Large commercial vehicles, including semitrucks, require greater stopping distances than passenger vehicles. Sudden movement by a pedestrian can create dangerous conditions for everyone on the roadway. In many highway crashes, traffic congestion and blocked lanes may also increase the risk of secondary accidents nearby.
Roadway lighting, weather conditions, and driver awareness are often reviewed after these incidents. Information gathered from the scene may later help explain the sequence of events and how the crash unfolded.
