What Investigators Review in Lane-Merge Collisions
Lane-merge crashes often occur when drivers change lanes without enough space or fail to properly check surrounding traffic. Investigators typically examine vehicle positioning, speed, and roadway markings to determine how the collision occurred.
Early morning crashes may also involve reduced visibility and lower traffic speeds, which can affect driver judgment during lane changes. Investigators may review surveillance footage, dash camera video, and witness statements to better understand the sequence of events.
When police or emergency vehicles are involved, officials often conduct additional reviews of traffic patterns and vehicle movement before impact. Citations related to right-of-way violations, insurance, or registration may also be included in the investigation findings.
