Omaha, NE – 16-Year-Old Elise Cole Killed in Fatal Crash at 176th and Q St

April 23, 2025

Omaha, NE  (April 22, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a teenager Monday evening in southwest Omaha, prompting an intensive investigation by the Omaha Police Department. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Elise Cole, whose life was cut short in a devastating intersection collision.

According to the Omaha Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m. on April 21 at the intersection of 176th and Q St. Emergency crews responded quickly and located two vehicles at the scene: a 2006 Ford F350 and a 2017 Subaru Outback.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Ford F350, driven by 32-year-old Christopher Luke, was traveling westbound on Q Street when it struck the Subaru Outback, which was traveling southbound on 176th Avenue and driven by Elise Cole. The force of the impact resulted in significant damage to both vehicles.

Paramedics from Omaha Fire Department transported both drivers to CUMC – Bergan Mercy Medical Center. Tragically, Elise Cole was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Christopher Luke’s condition has not been released.

The crash remains under active investigation. Police have not announced any citations or contributing factors at this stage, though further details may emerge as the review continues.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Elise Cole during this unimaginably difficult time. The community mourns the loss of a young life with such promise.

Teen Driver Fatalities and Intersection Dangers in Nebraska

The heartbreaking loss of a young driver like Elise Cole shines a light on the risks young motorists face, especially at busy or high-speed intersections. In Nebraska and across the nation, motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for teens, with intersections being a particularly vulnerable setting.

Teen drivers are statistically more likely to experience crashes due to inexperience, decision-making under pressure, and difficulty navigating complex traffic scenarios. Intersections like 176th and Q St, which connect fast-moving residential and arterial roads, can pose especially high risks—requiring careful timing, strong visibility, and quick judgment.

In this case, investigators will likely examine factors such as speed, signal compliance, right-of-way, and visibility at the intersection. Community safety advocates often call for improvements such as better signage, dedicated turning lanes, and enhanced driver education to reduce tragedies like this.

For families affected by fatal crashes, the emotional pain is compounded by legal, medical, and financial challenges. Navigating insurance processes, understanding rights, and accessing grief counseling are essential steps in the aftermath of such devastating events.
