Killeen, TX (July 24, 2026) – A 25-year-old woman died on Wednesday night, July 23, after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 14 in Killeen.

The fatal crash was reported at approximately 10:43 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-14. According to police, officers arrived to find the woman unresponsive in the roadway. A preliminary investigation indicates she had been a passenger in another vehicle and either exited or was forced from it while it was traveling westbound at highway speed. The vehicle had left the area before emergency units arrived, and witnesses were unable to provide a description.

The police said the woman came to rest in the outside westbound lane, where she was struck by an Audi sedan. The Audi driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene, while several other motorists stayed to help prevent additional vehicles from striking the woman. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have identified a potential suspect believed to have been driving the vehicle in which the woman had been traveling. The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under investigation.

Our sincere condolences go out to the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Why Are Auto-Pedestrian Crashes on Highways Fatal?

Pedestrians on high-speed highways face an extremely high risk of severe or fatal injuries because drivers have little time to react to someone in the travel lanes. Limited lighting, vehicle speeds, and traffic volume can make it difficult for motorists to see a person in the roadway until it is too late to avoid contact.

Investigators reviewing these cases typically examine physical evidence, witness statements, surveillance footage, and vehicle damage to determine how the person entered the roadway and the sequence of events. These findings may help clarify whether additional factors contributed to the fatal collision.

Highway safety officials encourage drivers to remain alert for unexpected hazards and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter someone on or near the roadway. Prompt reporting can help reduce the risk of additional tragedies.
