Nipton, CA (August 29, 2026) – One person was killed early on Thursday morning, August 27, in a crash on northbound Interstate 15 near mile marker 169 in the Mountain Pass area south of Bailey Road.

According to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at approximately 2:19 a.m. Initial dispatch entries referenced a white sedan and a semi-truck.

Responders later reported a man on the ground and requested an air ambulance for a patient experiencing agonal breathing. CHP subsequently confirmed that one person at the scene showed obvious signs of death, and the San Bernardino County coroner was requested.

All three northbound lanes were temporarily closed during the emergency response, with traffic diverted along the right shoulder. The lanes were later reopened. The collision remains under investigation.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died.

How Weight Differences Affect Freeway Collision Outcomes

Crashes involving passenger vehicles and large trucks can produce significant forces because of differences in vehicle size, weight, and structure.

At freeway speeds, occupants may also have limited time to react before impact. A collision can cause vehicles to change direction suddenly, leave the roadway, or become involved in additional impacts.

Travel speed, impact angle, vehicle size, roadway conditions, and the sequence of the crash can all influence injury severity. These incidents can also require a large emergency response when lanes must be closed, and critically injured patients need rapid medical attention.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
