Waynesboro, GA (August 22, 2026) – One person was killed on Thursday, August 20, in a fatal accident on Highway 23 in Burke County.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. between Saxon Road and Spring Branch Church Road. The roadway closed around 9:45 p.m. as emergency units worked at the crash site.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatality on Friday morning. The road reopened around 12:20 a.m. No information about the person who died was immediately released. The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under investigation.
