Why Major Freeway Crashes Lead to Extended Closures?
Serious freeway collisions frequently require lengthy investigations, particularly when a fatality occurs. Investigators must carefully document vehicle positions, roadway evidence, skid marks, debris fields, and damage patterns before vehicles can be removed. This process helps establish a timeline and determine how the crash unfolded.
Collisions involving commercial trucks require additional examination because of the size and weight of the vehicles involved. Investigators may review vehicle inspections, driver records, and mechanical conditions while reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
Road closures are commonly implemented to protect emergency personnel and preserve evidence. While these shutdowns can cause significant traffic delays, they allow investigators to conduct a thorough review and help ensure that all relevant information is collected before the roadway reopens.
