Philadelphia, PA (June 18, 2026) – A head-on crash late on Tuesday night in Philadelphia’s Tacony neighborhood left one person dead and another critically hurt.

Police said the collision happened shortly after 10 p.m. on June 16, in the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue. Officers found an Infiniti G35 and a Nissan NV3500 van involved in the wreck.

Two brothers were inside the Infiniti, including an 18-year-old driver and a 23-year-old front-seat passenger, Darius Santoni. Police said neither brother was wearing a seatbelt, and both sustained head injuries.

Santoni was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The 18-year-old driver remained in critical condition, according to police. The van driver’s condition was not released.

Investigators determined the Infiniti was traveling northbound on Torresdale Ave when it moved around a double-parked vehicle and entered the southbound lane before striking the van. The investigation into the fatal crash remains underway, with additional details expected as the review continues. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Darius Santoni’s loved ones during this difficult time.

How Head-on Crashes Can Lead to Severe Injuries

Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway collisions because the forces from two vehicles traveling toward each other can be significant. The severity of injuries can depend on factors such as vehicle speed, use of safety equipment, vehicle design, and the position of occupants inside the vehicle.

Safety restraints are designed to help reduce movement inside a vehicle during a collision. Other factors, including roadway design, driver decisions, and traffic conditions, can also affect the outcome of a crash.

Investigators often review vehicle damage, roadway markings, available video footage, and witness accounts when examining how a head-on collision occurred. These details can help provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding a serious roadway crash.
