Why Head-On Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because both vehicles are often moving toward each other at the time of contact. The combined force can lead to major damage and increase the likelihood of life-threatening harm for drivers and passengers alike.
Several factors can contribute to these crashes, including drifting across center lines, fatigue, poor visibility, or distracted driving. Rural highways and two-lane roads may carry added risks when there is little separation between opposing traffic lanes. Early morning travel can also create hazards due to reduced light and tired drivers beginning their commute.
After a serious roadway collision, investigators may review vehicle positions, road markings, witness statements, and traffic patterns to help piece together how the crash occurred.
