Thornton, WV (May 20, 2026) – One person died after a log truck overturned along US Route 50 in the Thornton community of Taylor County.
State police said the fatal wreck happened around 9:30 a.m. on Sigmans Hollow Road. Investigators said 22-year-old Robert Evans III of Eglon was driving a loaded Peterbilt truck westbound when the trailer crossed into the eastbound lane while rounding a right-hand curve.
The overturned trailer landed on a 2019 Ford F-150 driven by 51-year-old Shonda Rawlings-Henderson of Dinwiddie, Virginia. She died from her injuries, according to the preliminary report. Her family has been notified.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the rollover.
We extend heartfelt condolences to the woman’s loved ones during this difficult time.
How Rollover Truck Accidents Can Become Especially Dangerous on Curved Roads
Large truck rollovers can become more severe when they happen on narrow roads or sharp curves. Loaded trailers carry significant weight, and sudden movement during a turn may cause the trailer to shift or tip. When that happens, nearby lanes can quickly become blocked, leaving little time for other drivers to avoid contact.
Road shape, speed, cargo balance, and weather are often reviewed after these types of roadway collisions. Investigators may also examine tire marks, vehicle positioning, and mechanical systems connected to steering or braking. In crashes involving logging trucks or other heavy commercial vehicles, the trailer itself can create a major hazard if it overturns into oncoming traffic.
Medical findings, roadway photos, and vehicle damage reports can also help explain how the rollover unfolded and why the outcome became so severe.
