Chesterfield, VA (July 27, 2026) – One person died following a motorcycle collision on Route 1 near the I-288 interchange in Chesterfield on July 25. The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m., resulting in an extended closure of the roadway while emergency units worked at the scene.
The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead, according to police. The person’s identity has not yet been released as officials continue notifying next of kin. Traffic was significantly affected, with all northbound lanes of Route 1 at Route 288 and the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 288 to Route 1 north remaining closed for an estimated four to six hours. Crews directed traffic while investigators examined the cause of the fatal wreck.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined as the investigation continues.
