Montcalm County, MI (May 25, 2026) – A 23-year-old Sheridan man lost his life Sunday night after a motorcycle collided with another vehicle on South Sheridan Road near E. Condensery Road in Montcalm County.
Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling south in the northbound lanes shortly before 11 p.m. while attempting to pass other traffic. The bike then struck an oncoming vehicle driven by a 54-year-old woman from Remus.
The rider was pronounced dead at the roadside. The woman driving the other vehicle was not hurt. Additional information about the collision had not been made public as of Monday.
Investigators are still working to determine all factors connected to the fatal wreck. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Why Wrong-Way Motorcycle Travel Can Be So Dangerous
Motorcycles are harder for drivers to spot at night, especially on two-lane roads with limited lighting. When a rider travels in the wrong lane, other drivers may have very little time to react. Even a brief attempt to pass traffic can quickly become dangerous if another vehicle appears around a curve or over a hill.
Road design, speed, visibility, and traffic flow can all affect how quickly a driver notices a motorcycle coming toward them. Riders are also more exposed than people inside passenger vehicles, which can lead to more serious harm during high-speed roadway impacts. After a deadly roadway collision, investigators often review tire marks, vehicle positions, and lighting conditions to better determine how the sequence unfolded.
