Corona, CA (August 3, 2026) — One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on westbound SR-91 east of Maple Street on Saturday, August 1.

California Highway Patrol dispatch records show the collision was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. Several passenger vehicles and a motorcycle were identified in the initial response.

Emergency personnel provided CPR at the scene. Multiple travel lanes and express lanes were closed while responders assisted those involved, documented the crash, and removed damaged vehicles.

The express lanes later reopened, followed by the remaining mainline lanes at approximately 10:45 a.m. The full sequence of the collision and its cause remain under investigation.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died.

Where the Collision Happened: Westbound SR-91 East of Maple St

SR-91 is a major east-west route through Corona that carries regional traffic between Riverside and Orange counties. The roadway includes mainline and express lanes, creating separate traffic streams that may move at different speeds.

A crash affecting both areas can require extensive lane controls because responders must reach vehicles across several lanes while protecting the scene from approaching traffic. Closures may also cause backups well beyond the original collision site.

What We Know

  • The crash occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
  • A motorcycle and several passenger vehicles were involved.
  • One person died.
  • Emergency personnel performed CPR at the scene.
  • Mainline and express lanes were temporarily closed.
  • Authorities requested multiple towing services.
  • All lanes reopened at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Why Multi-Vehicle Motorcycle Collisions Can Be Especially Severe

A motorcycle rider has little physical protection when a collision involves several larger vehicles. After an initial impact, the rider may also face a heightened risk of additional contact from nearby traffic.

In this SR-91 crash, reports that multiple vehicles may have been involved will require investigators to distinguish the first collision from any later impacts. Damage patterns and vehicle positions can help establish how the sequence developed across the freeway lanes.

How This Crash Is Investigated

CHP investigators may compare damage to the motorcycle and each passenger vehicle with debris, tire marks, and the locations where the vehicles stopped; those details can help identify the first point of contact and the order of any subsequent impacts.

Dispatch records also indicate that footage was available from the toll-lane system. Investigators may review that video alongside witness accounts and physical evidence as they reconstruct the collision. Initial dispatch information does not represent a final finding of fault.

What to Do After a Fatal Crash

Family members and other eligible parties may need the completed collision report to understand what investigators documented. Photographs, medical records, towing documents, insurance correspondence, and other crash-related materials should be preserved while the investigation remains active.

For crashes investigated by the California Highway Patrol, reports are available through the CHP Crash Portal at crashes.chp.ca.gov or through a CHP 190 request submitted by mail or in person. The collision report form is CHP 555, while CHP 190 is the request form.

The online portal fee is $22. Mail and in-person requests cost $10 per 25 pages through CHP. A report becomes available after the officer files it, and the portal shows when it is ready.

Under Vehicle Code § 20012, eligible parties of interest include a driver, passenger, vehicle or property owner, parent or guardian, and legal or insurance representative. California collision reports are not public records and remain restricted to parties of interest, with no fixed public-release window.
