Lawrence Twp, PA (June 22, 2026) – A three-vehicle accident with heavy entrapment was reported at the intersection of Clearfield Shawville Hwy (879) and Daisy St Ext. (322) toward Clearfield on Saturday, June 20. Initial information indicated that one vehicle was on its side with a male occupant trapped inside who was unconscious and not breathing.

Shortly after emergency units arrived, crews confirmed that a van remained on its side and was smoking. The report also stated that one patient was in trauma arrest. A coroner was requested to the roadway, and the Route 879 off-ramp was closed.

The male occupant was pronounced dead at the site. No names were released following the accident. Still, investigators are continuing to examine the factors that led to the fatal collision.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the deceased person’s family and friends during this difficult time.

What Happens During a Response to a Vehicle Entrapment Emergency?

Vehicle entrapment cases are among the most complex roadway emergencies. When a person cannot safely exit a vehicle, specialized equipment is frequently used to create access and allow medical personnel to reach the occupant. The process may involve stabilizing the vehicle first, especially if it has tipped onto its side or come to rest in an unstable position.

Medical teams typically assess breathing, circulation, and other life-threatening concerns while access efforts are underway. Road closures are also common because crews need space to work safely around damaged vehicles and heavy equipment. In multi-vehicle collisions, investigators may later review roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and witness statements to develop a clearer picture of what occurred. These reviews help establish a timeline and identify contributing factors.
