Why Lane Position Matters in Highway Safety
Staying within marked travel lanes is a key part of preventing serious roadway crashes. Drivers may cross into another lane because of distractions, fatigue, medical issues, weather, or other factors.
Highway crashes involving vehicles traveling in opposite directions can be especially dangerous because vehicles often have limited time to avoid each other. Safety reviews may consider road design, visibility, vehicle movement, and driver actions when examining what happened.
Maintaining proper lane control and staying alert can help reduce risks for everyone using major roads. Even experienced drivers can face unexpected challenges, making careful attention behind the wheel an important part of safe travel.
