What Is Typically Reviewed After a Vehicle Leaves an Overpass?
When a vehicle leaves an overpass, investigators usually examine the roadway, guardrails, vehicle damage, and the path it traveled before it went over the edge. Tire marks, debris, and the final resting position can help establish the sequence of events.
Other factors commonly reviewed include roadway design, visibility, weather conditions, and any evidence of mechanical problems or driver impairment. Medical findings and occupant positions may also help explain injury outcomes. These details are combined to reconstruct how the vehicle departed the roadway and determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
