Van Zandt County, TX (August 29, 2026) – One person died Tuesday, August 25, after a passenger vehicle and tractor-trailer collided on Hwy 19 near County Rd 2205, south of Canton.
The accident happened around 6:15 a.m. A preliminary investigation found that a Jeep Wrangler was traveling north when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the 18-wheeler.
The passenger vehicle caught fire after the collision. Firefighters extinguished the flames but could not save the driver.
The driver of the tractor-trailer became trapped inside the truck and was later taken to a hospital after being freed. No identities were provided in the initial report.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains active. Our deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones of the person who died.
