Nashville, TN (May 30, 2026) – A 66-year-old man died following a wrong-way crash early Saturday on Briley Parkway in northern Davidson County. The multi-vehicle collision was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 22, just before Clarksville Pike.
According to Metro Nashville Police, a 17-year-old was driving a Ford F-150 westbound in the eastbound lanes when the pickup struck a Chevrolet Cruze head-on. The driver of the Chevrolet, Alan J. Roncone, 66, of Clarksville, was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he later died.
The teenage driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Police said the teen was arrested after being released from the hospital and charged in Juvenile Court with vehicular homicide by intoxication and reckless endangerment.
Eastbound lanes of Briley Parkway remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the roadway.
The investigation into the fatal wreck remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Alan J. Roncone.
Why Wrong-Way Crashes Often Result in Fatal Injuries
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic collisions because they frequently involve head-on contact between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. The combined force of both vehicles can greatly increase the severity of injuries.
These collisions often occur on high-speed roadways where drivers have little time to react or avoid an oncoming vehicle. Early morning hours can present additional challenges due to reduced traffic visibility and impaired driving concerns. Investigators commonly review vehicle movements, roadway signage, driver impairment, and witness accounts when examining wrong-way crashes. Because of the high-energy forces involved, these collisions are more likely to result in serious or fatal outcomes than many other types of roadway crashes.
