Zanesville, OH (June 6, 2026) – A man was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle wreck on westbound I-70 near milepost 151 in Falls Township. The crash occurred at approximately 10:33 a.m. on June 5.
Officials reported that a 2008 Kia Rondo, driven by 33-year-old Ray Guntrum of New Stanton, Pennsylvania, experienced a flat tire. Guntrum attempted to move the vehicle into the median but lost control. His actions caused a 2017 Ford F-150, driven by 50-year-old Robert Murgatroyd of Zanesville, to swerve into the right lane, where it struck a 2014 International semi operated by 69-year-old Danny Dickson of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
The pickup truck then left the roadway and overturned. Murgatroyd was pronounced dead at the scene by the Muskingum County Coroner’s Office. Guntrum and Dickson were not hurt. Additional information about the wreck has not been released. Authorities are continuing to review the events leading up to the crash. Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased.
Understanding Multi-Vehicle Highway Wrecks
Highway collisions involving multiple vehicles can happen very quickly, often in just a few seconds. A single mechanical issue, such as a flat tire, can create chain reactions when nearby drivers have little time to adjust. Roadway layout, lane changes, and vehicle spacing all influence how these events unfold.
Investigators often examine tire marks, vehicle positions, and witness accounts to reconstruct the sequence. Truck and passenger vehicle interactions are carefully studied due to their different sizes and handling characteristics. Early reports usually focus on confirmed injuries and fatalities, while technical details like vehicle speeds and exact maneuvers are assessed later. Understanding these factors can provide context for why multi-vehicle collisions sometimes result in serious outcomes.
