Galveston, TX (July 3, 2026) – One man died, and multiple others were injured on Friday, July 3, after a multi-vehicle crash on the Gulf Freeway in Galveston.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway at 71st Street on Galveston Island. Houston TranStar verified the crash at 11:47 a.m. and reported that a heavy truck was involved.
Galveston Police said a man was taken to a trauma center in Galveston, where he later died. His name was not publicly released in the initial report.
The crash caused major backups on the Causeway into Galveston. By about 2:00 p.m., traffic appeared to be moving through one left lane, though the full reopening time was not confirmed. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
