Why Loss-of-Control Crashes Can Involve Multiple Vehicles
When a driver loses control on a roadway, the resulting crash can quickly involve several vehicles, especially on busy or multi-lane roads. Sudden steering changes, speed, or road conditions can cause a vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic before other drivers have time to react.
Multi-vehicle crashes usually increase the risk of injury because impacts may occur in rapid succession. Each additional vehicle involved can add complexity to the collision pattern and make avoidance more difficult for surrounding traffic.
After these types of crashes, investigators typically review roadway conditions, vehicle paths, and physical evidence such as skid marks and damage points. These details help reconstruct how the sequence of impacts unfolded and what factors contributed to the loss of control.
