Levan, UT (June 14, 2026) – A collision between two SUVs and a sedan led to the death of one person on northbound Interstate 15 near Levan on Friday afternoon, June 12.
The crash occurred near milepost 210 and led to extended closures along northbound Interstate 15. Authorities said a blue SUV failed to stop as traffic slowed in a construction zone and struck the rear of a white sedan. The SUV then sideswiped a black SUV before leaving the roadway and crashing.
Emergency units responded to the scene and temporarily closed the interstate to allow a medical helicopter to land. One person sustained critical injuries, including a possible head injury, and was airlifted from the scene for emergency treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that the victim died from those injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Construction Zones Can Increase Crash Risks on Highways
Construction zones require drivers to reduce speed, merge lanes, or adjust to changing traffic patterns. When traffic slows unexpectedly, rear-end collisions can occur if motorists are unable to react in time.
Investigators reviewing crashes in work zones frequently examine traffic flow, vehicle spacing, and driver attention leading up to the collision. Reduced lane widths, temporary barriers, and congestion can also affect how vehicles respond during sudden slowdowns.
Information gathered from the scene helps determine how the crash developed and whether roadway conditions, traffic volume, or driver actions contributed to the incident. Understanding these factors can help improve safety in active construction areas.
