What Drivers Should Know About Rollover Crashes on California State Routes
Rollover crashes are among the more serious types of vehicle accidents that occur on California state routes, particularly on two-lane highways with higher speed limits and limited median barriers. When a vehicle tips onto its side or roof, the occupants inside face a heightened risk of injury because the structural protection around them is reduced compared to a standard front or rear impact. Ejection risk also increases if occupants are not properly restrained.
Bystander assistance at rollover crash sites can be life-saving, but it also carries risks. Moving a crash victim without knowing the extent of their injuries can sometimes make things worse, particularly if there are spinal or neck concerns. That said, in situations where a vehicle poses an immediate fire or entrapment risk, getting people out quickly may be the priority.
State routes like SR-67 in San Diego County carry significant traffic between rural and suburban communities, and nighttime driving on these roads can be more hazardous due to reduced visibility and fewer lit stretches of pavement.
