Waldorf, MD (September 3, 2026) – At least one person was hurt on Tuesday night after a two-vehicle collision on Berry Road. The accident was reported around 9:51 p.m. near the 9000 block of Berry Road, also known as Maryland Route 228.
Initial reports said one vehicle left the roadway and entered the woods before catching fire. Another report indicated that the vehicle had struck a truck before entering the wooded area.
A person was later seen walking from the woods while bleeding. An off-duty federal agent who came upon the crash stayed with the patient until emergency units arrived. At least one patient was taken to Fort Washington Medical Center. The extent of the person’s injuries was not released.
Emergency units also responded to a reported explosion at an electrical box near the crash site. Route 228 was shut down while crews worked in the area. The circumstances surrounding the wreck are still being examined.
We hope the injured person has a smooth recovery.
What Can Happen When a Vehicle Leaves the Road?
A vehicle that leaves the roadway can encounter conditions that differ sharply from the travel lane. Trees, ditches, uneven ground, utility equipment, and other fixed objects can create additional hazards.
Loss of control may occur after a sudden steering maneuver, a mechanical problem, poor road conditions, or contact with another vehicle. Once a vehicle enters a wooded or uneven area, its movement can become difficult to predict.
Seat belts can help keep occupants inside the vehicle during a rollover or sudden change in direction. Drivers can reduce risk by maintaining a safe speed, staying alert, and avoiding abrupt maneuvers. Extra caution is also helpful on roads with narrow shoulders or limited visibility.
