What Causes Traffic Delays After a Two-Vehicle Crash?
Even relatively small crashes can create significant traffic disruptions when vehicles come to rest in travel lanes. Blocked intersections and roadways may force drivers to slow down, merge, or seek alternate routes until the vehicles are removed.
Injury crashes can require additional time because medical evaluations, vehicle documentation, and roadway cleanup must be completed before normal traffic flow can resume. Also, investigators may need to record evidence and determine the positions of the vehicles involved.
The length of a closure usually depends on factors such as vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and whether towing services are required. Once the roadway is cleared and deemed safe for travel, traffic typically returns to normal conditions.
