How Do Intersections Contribute to Injury Crashes?
Intersections are among the busiest parts of any roadway because they bring together traffic moving in different directions. Drivers must pay attention to traffic signals, stop signs, pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles while making quick decisions. Even a brief distraction or a misunderstanding of another driver’s actions can increase the likelihood of a collision.
Road design, visibility, weather, and traffic volume can also influence safety at intersections. Left turns, changing traffic patterns, and limited sight distances may make certain crossings more challenging, particularly during busy travel periods.
Following an injury crash, investigators typically review physical evidence, witness statements, roadway conditions, and vehicle damage to determine how the collision occurred. Additional findings may become available as that review continues.
