Why Multi-Vehicle Roadway Emergencies Can Be Severe
Multi-vehicle roadway emergencies can cause serious harm because each vehicle may move in a different direction before coming to rest. When one car overturns or another reaches a nearby home, the damage pattern can show how much force was applied to the vehicles. People inside may be hurt by seat belts, airbags, doors, glass, or sudden movement.
Medical teams regularly check for head, chest, spine, hip, and limb trauma after severe vehicle contact. Some injuries are obvious right away, while others may take time to confirm. Road closures may also be needed so crews can help patients, remove damaged vehicles, and keep nearby drivers away. Vehicle positions, traffic flow, speed, road design, and witness statements may help explain how the emergency happened.
