Rensselaer, IN (May 26, 2026) – A 63-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday, May 23, after a passenger car and motorcycle were involved in an accident in rural Rensselaer.
The collision was reported at about 4:41 p.m. near State Road 14 and County Road 1100 West. A caller first reported finding a damaged 2015 Hyundai Elantra and a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
A short time later, the caller reported finding an unresponsive man in a wooded area near the intersection. Police identified him as Randy Sizemore of Rensselaer, and the Jasper County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators said Sizemore had been riding east on State Road 14 as the Hyundai traveled south on County Road 1100 West. Police said the Hyundai driver failed to stop at a visible stop sign before the vehicles collided.
The Hyundai driver, identified as 21-year-old Esly Isai Fuentes Sanabria of Rensselaer, was later found about a half-mile from the scene and taken into custody.
The wreck remains under review as investigators continue gathering details. We extend our sincere condolences to Randy Sizemore’s family and loved ones.
Why Motorcycle Accidents at Rural Intersections Can Be Deadly
Motorcycle accidents at rural intersections can lead to severe harm because riders have little protection from larger vehicles. A rider may be thrown from the motorcycle or forced off the road after contact. Injuries can affect the head, chest, spine, arms, and legs.
Rural intersections may also involve higher travel speeds and fewer traffic controls than busy city streets. After a fatal motorcycle-related roadway emergency, investigators may review vehicle damage, final resting positions, travel direction, witness statements, and whether traffic signs were visible. These details can help explain how the vehicles came together and why the outcome was so serious.
