Hickory, NC (September 5, 2026) – One person was killed, and two others were hospitalized early on Friday after a train struck a Cadillac DeVille at a railway crossing in Hickory.
The collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the 17th St SW crossing near Main Ave NW. Three people were inside the 2002 Cadillac when the train struck it.
One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital, while another passenger was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.
Investigators confirmed that the crossing arms were functioning properly when the train struck the Cadillac. The rail cars were empty at the time.
Charges are pending as Hickory police and Norfolk Southern conduct separate investigations. Our sympathies are with the family and loved ones of the person who died, and we hope those hospitalized recover fully.
