How does speed affect crash severity?
Higher speeds increase stopping distance and the force of impact, which tends to raise the likelihood of serious injury even in crashes involving the same vehicles.
What injuries are most common in car accidents?
Whiplash, cuts, bruising, and head or chest injuries from striking the interior of the vehicle are common, even in crashes that do not look severe from the outside.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Ontario, CA
If you're involved in a crash on a freeway shoulder or off-ramp, try to move to a safe area away from moving traffic if the vehicle is drivable. Turn on hazard lights and call 911 to report the collision and any injuries. Even if you feel fine, a medical check is worth doing, since some injuries don't show symptoms right away. Exchange information with the other driver, note the location and time, and take photos if it's safe to do so. Keep a copy of the CHP incident report once it's available, and follow up with a doctor if any pain or stiffness develops in the days after.
