Orlando, FL (January 8, 2026) – A bicyclist suffered severe injuries Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash involving a box truck in Orlando. The collision occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail (US-441) and Woodsmere Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Witnesses reported that the driver of a box truck, later identified as 41-year-old Jose Batista Grullon, exited a side street and struck the bicyclist. Rather than stopping, Grullon allegedly slowed briefly, then continued driving—dragging the injured cyclist into the middle of the roadway before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders arrived to find the bicyclist critically hurt. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with internal bleeding and a fractured pelvis, injuries that required urgent medical care. No update on the individual’s condition has been released at this time.
Thanks to witness accounts and a coordinated response, Florida Highway Patrol troopers were able to identify and locate Batista Grullon shortly after the incident. He was arrested and charged with failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, a felony offense under Florida law. He was booked into the Orange County Jail.
The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
Our thoughts are with the injured bicyclist, and we hope for a full and strong recovery.
