Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes motorcycle crashes?
Common factors include drivers failing to notice motorcycles in traffic, turning vehicles misjudging a rider's speed or distance, and riders being hit at intersections where visibility is limited.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other crashes?
A motorcycle offers no outer frame to absorb impact, so riders are commonly thrown from the bike and strike the road or another vehicle directly.
How do left-turning vehicles end up colliding with motorcycles?
A driver turning left across traffic may not see an oncoming motorcycle or may misjudge how fast it is approaching, resulting in a collision as the rider crosses the intersection.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice, allowing extra following distance, and looking specifically for motorcycles before turning or changing lanes can help drivers notice riders sooner.
