Frequently Asked Questions
What should a rider do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
If possible, move to safety, call 911, and avoid removing a helmet or moving an injured person unless there's an immediate danger. Get checked by medical personnel even if injuries seem minor, since some, like internal injuries, aren't obvious right away.
Do motorcycle crashes happen more frequently at intersections?
Yes. Many motorcycle crashes occur when a turning vehicle fails to see an oncoming rider, particularly at intersections where drivers are judging gaps in traffic.
What gear helps reduce injury for motorcyclists?
A DOT-approved helmet, abrasion-resistant jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots can reduce the severity of injuries in a crash. Helmets in particular lower the risk of fatal head injury.
