Ottawa County, MI (January 24, 2026) – A serious crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle left two men injured—one critically—after their car became trapped beneath a trailer on Lake Michigan Dr. The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m., amid icy road conditions and poor visibility across West Michigan.
According to deputies, a Freightliner semi was hauling a trailer and attempting to cross Lake Michigan Dr when a 2012 Ford Fusion, traveling eastbound, struck the truck. The smaller vehicle slid under the semi between its rear tires and axles, pinning both occupants inside the car.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and performed an extrication to remove the trapped individuals. The 21-year-old driver from Grand Haven sustained serious injuries, while his 22-year-old passenger from West Olive suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening. Both were transported to the hospital for further treatment.
The semi driver, a 52-year-old man from Illinois, was not injured in the incident.
Due to the severity of the crash and ongoing cleanup efforts, Lake Michigan Dr remains closed between 92nd Ave and 84th Ave. Authorities have urged motorists to seek alternate routes as the investigation continues.
This collision comes during a wave of subzero temperatures and lake-effect snow impacting the region, with many roads snow-covered and icy, contributing to hazardous driving conditions.
We send our thoughts to the injured individuals and hope for a full and safe recovery.
