What Is Often Reviewed After Serious Intersection Crashes
Serious crashes at rural intersections frequently involve questions about right-of-way, visibility, and vehicle speed. Investigators commonly examine traffic signs, roadway markings, and the direction each vehicle was traveling before the collision.
When a driver is ejected from a vehicle, responders may also review seat belt use and the severity of the vehicle’s damage. Ejection crashes often result in severe or fatal injuries because occupants can strike the roadway or nearby objects during the collision.
Crash reconstruction teams may use debris patterns, impact locations, and witness statements to determine how the incident unfolded. In rural areas, stop-sign intersections can become especially dangerous when drivers fail to yield to cross traffic traveling at highway speeds.
