Seymour, CT (May 24, 2026) – An old man from Oxford died on Friday night, May 23, after a head-on collision on Great Hill Road near Southwest Road in Seymour.
Law enforcement was called to Great Hill Road near Southwest Road around 8:55 p.m. after reports of a serious roadway crash. When crews reached the area, they found two vehicles involved in a head-on crash.
The vehicles included a 1930 Ford Model A and a Ford F-350 pickup. Richard Dimauro, 79, of Oxford, was found unresponsive inside the Ford Model A. Lifesaving measures were performed before he was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford F-350 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash.
The Connecticut State Police CARS Unit is assisting Seymour law enforcement as the review continues into what led to the wrong-way movement and impact sequence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Richard Dimauro.
What Investigators Typically Examine in Head-On Highway Crashes
After serious roadway situations involving vehicles traveling in opposite directions, investigators often review multiple forms of evidence to understand how the sequence developed. This can include roadway markings, vehicle positions, and damage patterns that help show how each vehicle moved before contact.
Statements from drivers or witnesses may also be reviewed when available. These accounts can help clarify timing and direction of travel leading up to the moment vehicles met.
Medical records are sometimes reviewed later to understand the severity of harm and the care provided. Lighting conditions, weather, and traffic flow are also considered as part of the broader analysis. Each detail is compared to help build a clearer reconstruction of what happened on the roadway.
