Palm Beach, FL (May 17, 2026) – Two people were hurt following a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning, March 17, along the 17000 block of U.S. 27 in Palm Beach County. The crash was reported shortly after 4:30 a.m.
Emergency units arrived and found one of the vehicles resting in a roadside ditch. Crews used heavy extrication tools to remove one person trapped inside a vehicle before both people involved were flown by helicopter to trauma centers in Palm Beach County for treatment.
No names or updated medical details had been released at the time of publication. Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the roadway accident. We hope those receiving treatment make a full and speedy recovery.
Why Extrication May Be Needed After a Serious Highway Crash
Extrication is sometimes required when people become trapped inside a vehicle after a major highway wreck. This can happen when doors are jammed, the frame is bent, or debris blocks safe exit paths. Special hydraulic tools are often used to cut through metal and create enough space to remove occupants carefully.
High-speed roads such as U.S. highways can increase the force involved in a two-vehicle crash, which may raise the chance of serious injuries. In many cases, air medical transport is used when patients need rapid treatment at a trauma center. Helicopters can help reduce travel time, especially in rural stretches of roadway or when traffic delays ground transportation. Medical teams usually continue evaluating those involved after arrival to better understand the extent of their injuries.
