Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes between cars and motorcycles?
Many involve a driver failing to see an approaching motorcycle, misjudging its speed or distance, or turning across its path at an intersection. Limited visibility and brief lapses in attention are common factors.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than typical car crashes?
A motorcycle offers no enclosed frame, airbags, or seatbelt to absorb impact, so riders are more exposed to direct contact with another vehicle or the roadway.
How do left-turning or crossing vehicles end up colliding with motorcycles?
A motorcycle's narrow profile can be harder to spot, especially at intersections, so a driver turning or crossing traffic may misjudge how close it is or not see it until it's too late.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more reliably?
Checking mirrors and blind spots an extra time before turning or changing lanes, and treating intersections with extra caution, gives drivers more time to notice a motorcycle before paths cross.
What to Do After a Vehicle Versus Motorcycle Crash in Palm Springs, FL
Call 911 immediately and stay at the scene until officers arrive. Even if injuries seem minor, get checked by a medical provider, since some injuries from these collisions aren't obvious right away.
