PALMDALE, Los Angeles County, Calif., Oct. 21, 2026 — Two people were hurt Tuesday afternoon, October 20, in a two-vehicle crash that left one vehicle on its side near East Avenue P and 170th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. on East Avenue P at 170th Street East, a rural intersection in Palmdale, the CHP said. Initial radio traffic described a gray vehicle colliding with another vehicle that ended up on its side, though the agency's account was later updated to identify the vehicles as a white Acura with major right-side damage and a black Chevrolet Equinox with major front-end damage.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responding to the scene reported that occupants were trapped and that all lanes were blocked, the CHP log shows. The extent of injuries was not immediately known at that point, and investigators have not released updated details on the severity of the harm to the two people hurt.
A tow truck was requested to remove the overturned vehicle, and two tow companies were dispatched to clear the vehicles from the roadway, according to the CHP incident log. The crash was still being investigated as of Tuesday afternoon, and no cause has been released.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What causes a vehicle to roll over?
Rollovers typically happen when a vehicle trips on something, like a curb, soft shoulder, or another vehicle, while moving sideways, or when a sharp steering move at speed shifts the vehicle's weight enough to tip it. Taller vehicles with a higher center of gravity, such as SUVs and trucks, are more prone to this.
Are rollovers more common on certain roads?
Yes. They happen more often on rural roads and intersections with higher speed limits, where there's less traffic control and more room to build up speed before a collision or steering correction.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants can suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries, especially if they're thrown against the roof or window during the roll. Seatbelt use significantly reduces the chance of being ejected or struck by the vehicle's interior.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Palmdale, CA
If you're involved in a rollover crash, stay as still as possible until you can assess whether you're injured, since adrenaline can mask pain from neck or back injuries. If it's safe to do so, remember to turn on hazard lights and wait for emergency crews. Anyone involved should get a medical evaluation even if they feel fine, since some injuries from a rollover don't show symptoms right away. Make sure to keep a copy of the CHP or police report for your records, and follow up with your insurance company once you've been checked out.
