Early, TX (August 12, 2026) – A pedestrian was flown to a Fort Worth trauma center on Tuesday morning after being struck by an 18-wheeler in the 1700 block of Early Boulevard, according to the Early Police Department. Early police, fire crews, and Lifeguard EMS responded around 5:18 a.m.
The pedestrian was walking in a traffic lane at the time and was difficult to see because of early-morning lighting, according to a preliminary investigation. The truck’s driver reportedly saw the pedestrian at the last moment and tried to avoid the person, but was unable to prevent the crash.
The pedestrian’s name and condition were not released. We hope the pedestrian has a full recovery.
Why Are Early-Morning Hours So Risky for Pedestrians in Traffic Lanes?
Lighting is at its weakest in the hour or so before sunrise, when streetlights may not fully illuminate a roadway and natural light hasn’t yet taken over. A pedestrian in dark clothing can be nearly invisible under these conditions until a vehicle is very close.
Large trucks add another factor, since a fully loaded 18-wheeler needs considerably more distance to stop or maneuver than a passenger car. Even a driver who spots a pedestrian in time may not have enough room to avoid contact, especially at highway or arterial speeds.
